I WENT TO CHURCH SATURDAY

This could be a very controversial post…

I am going to take a chance and record my feelings…its  been a case of not sure what my feelings were.

I have heard heated debates on this subject in the last few days.  I have heard Christians being so judgemental.   I found myself “thinking”!

I had leaned to the side of “maybe it was too much?”

Let me preface this with I did not think lowering the flag was a good thing. But that’s a different post.

But in saying that I am glad that they televised Whitney Houston’s memorial service.

I do love black church.  I do love Donnie McClurkin (Just Stand), I do love the Winan’s, and I do love Tyler Perry.

But most of all I love the words they shared.  Was Whitney a hero to me?  Not at all.  I loved her voice and her songs.  I was a tad jealous of her relationship with Kevin Costner. (only kidding)

But her service spoke to me.  I saw a Kevin Costner I had never seen before.  Wow!
Who knew he grew up in a Baptist church?

I especially loved the part where he talked about Whitney not thinking she was good enough.  I don’t know about you but that’s something I struggle with…and to say Whitney Houston questioned whether her singing was good enough.  Think about that.

I thought the song Bebe Winans sang was one  beautiful song. The words are still rolling over in my mind.

Tyler Perry could have preached.  The world heard the message of grace and redemption.

T.D. Jakes had a word.  A word I don’t plan to forget.

After watching four and half hours of church, I was again reminded that we are all broken, hurt , damaged humans in need of Jesus.

Whether our addiction is drugs, alcohol, fame, shopping, eating, or the million other addictions…we are all in need of being set free.   Enough about that.  Your thoughts?

This Thursday, the 23rd,  is Baby Crew’s surgery.  Please remember the family.  It will be a very long and hard day.

Beautiful share. The sad part is Whitney was given a God loving gift that she should have cherished ... her life & her talent.

Prayers lifting for this beautiful child of God. May His hands be wrapped in love around this child & guide the Drs. hands.

Have a lovely week ~

I will be praying for Crew.
I watched Whitney's service and I thought it was lovely. I also learned something from the Reverend who spoke at the end. I like when he talked about the manual you get with the car which teaches you how to get the best performance from your car. It doesn't tell you where to go or who to let into your car. Then he went on to say how the Bible is our manual and will teach us how to get the best performance out of our life!

We all are in need of compassion and we all need to be compassionate. I was especially moved by Kevin Costner.

your post was beautiful. We all need to be treated with compassion and forgiveness especially when our demons outweigh our God given talents. She had it all and lost it all yet never waivered in her love for Jesus. Who am I to judge?

Your posted touched me as they always do:) The question that you have asked is a question that I ask myself many, many times. Easpecially as I watch other Christians judge, when they have their own struggles as well that are possibly more "acceptable", yet the root of the struggle is the same. It deeply saddens me. Having lost a brother to this same addiction and being in the process of reconciling his painful life; I have decided that the truth is that we do not truly understand the plight of others. I believe the job of the church is to LOVE with the love of Christ. Sometimes Christians forget that we need a SAVIOR and that why Jesus came for us. You love others with this kind of love Teresa, this is the way that you live ~ Love you!!!

What a sad tragic loss it was to lose Whitney. It's amazin' to me that she doubted her God given talant, but when ya think about it...don't we all.

I thought the service was a wonderful celebration of her life.

Know that I'll be holdin' precious little Crew and his family up through surgery and recovery. It's a hard path to tread but we Mama's will do whatever it takes.

God bless ya sweetie and have yourself an amazin' day!!! :o)

I have been praying for little Crew. I have a whole list of little ones that need prayers.
I am hoping that Whitney's death will save others from goingdown that path.
Kevin is amazing isn't he.
We are all broken and we all need help, some more so than others.
Your background today is something from photo bucket.........like the whole page.

I watched all 3 3/4 hours of the funeral and loved the music and Scriptures.

Yes, I too loved Whitney's voice, and thought she was beautiful...until she began her downward spiral. I get chills everytime I hear her. However, It's a shame they felt it worthy to fly flags half mast for someone who was known to use drugs, which ultimately killed her. I felt there are much more who are worthy, such as our soldiers....
Regardless, it's a tragic ending.

I am praying for baby Crew....

Thoughtful post, Teresa.
I get chills every time I hear Whitney sing. The movie 'Preacher's Wife' is one of my favorites. Sadly, I didn't get to watch the funeral. Sounds like I missed a great service.
