IT NEVER FAILS

If you are NOT a football fan skip this post. I love it and miss very few games.  Direct TV’s Sunday Ticket gives me the opportunity to watch all the games.  But what gets me is the Star Spangled Banner.  The singing of the National Anthem gets me every time. The Chicago Bears  do an outstanding job of celebrating America at every game…but I love Martina McBride. Can you imagine singing it with a wind chill of 5 degrees.  She just sang it for the Jets-Steelers Game. And who would have known it was freezing? I don’t have a favorite for this game, really didn’t with either game today.  My teams are out.  But I know the players. I know all four coaches…well not personally, but I know a lot about them because I read.  I may be the only person ever that watches the players as the national anthem is sung.  I know weird.  I always have.  I love to catch one singing, really singing.    You see everything. Tonight, I saw Big Ben singing (he has had some days in the last year where he had nothing to sing about). I hope his is a story of redemption.
I saw Jason Taylor, I saw the young Mark Sanchez.  I saw a group holding  hands, no doubt praying. This is a Big Game.   You can tell the ones that really feel the song and seem to understand that honoring America is much bigger than a football game.  I love pretty much everything about the game and thinking we are down to the last two for this season makes me sad if not depressed.  If its not your thing, you do not get that.  In the big scheme of life there are so many things more important.  It’s just my DRUG of CHOICE.  Ha
I love to know the players stories.  I love the smack, I love the challenges.  The one thing I cannot stand is showboats and dances in the end zones. Hate it.  I like a player with class.  One that acts like he has been there before and plans on returning.   I even tried to like Aaron Rogers today. He seems like a nice young man.   That will be an inside joke to people that have read my blog a long time.  After tonight's game I will spend the next two weeks reading the stories of all the players on both teams.  I love knowing how they reached their dream. Enough football…and probably my last football post for the year.
Not breaking news, but I have had the flu. (I am just guessing since I had every symptom but had some Tamiflu on hand and did not go to the doctor)  Guess I was due, low resistance, lots of stress, etc.
I know most of you have kept up with Joanne’s progress.  If not, catch up on her blog, The Simple Wife.  The updates are nothing short of miraculous. And if you have missed her sisters updates, a new blog for you to read is Kristen's. What a gifted writer and what a special sister.
The winner of the GIVEAWAY is Sally at
Life is A Beautiful Gift.  A surprise package will be on its way to her.
I just finished the best book…..UnSHAKEN, about a man working for Compassion International that was trapped for days in the Haiti earthquake.  I could not put it down.   I would love to GIVE my copy away.  All you need to do is leave a comment on this post.  that’s it….if you have a great remedy for the January blues, leave it for me or if you are on a new eating plan and its working, leave that too. I will draw at the end of the week (or Parker will)
Remeber the Elmers Glue Jack poured all over his carpeT at my house.  His Mom just told me he poured over a half a bottle of Baby oil in his room at home Today.  Woody can make a mess.

I'm sorry you've been sick; a lot of that stuff going around. Feel better soon. Yes, I've been watching and reading on Joanne's progress. Thank the good Lord, it sounds as though she's doing better, one little step at the time.

I cannot believe I WON SOMETHING!! Thank you so much. I'll send off that email to you. Today wasn't the best of days, but you just made it better. :)

I always watch the players when the national anthem is played. It always angers me when some of them are talking and laughing, but I love when some are singing and truly being respectful. My heart really belongs to college football. Notre Dame to be specific. But my family and friends are huge Bears fans. They are all a little sad tonight. But what can you do when your quarterback blows out his knee?

I would so love to read this book. One of the greatest solutions for winter blues for me is reading. I love books that share how great our God is and how he is with us regardless of where we find ourselves. Love your blog. Blessings!

Hi Teresa! It'a been awhile, but I am now back at work and blog reading time is hard to fit in!!!

Sorry to hear that you have been ill, but one can only expect that you have become so rundown!! You have been a pillar of strength.

My team/s are out of the running, bu I am backing the Packers for the Super Bowl! Aaron Rogers is a local college grad (Cal Berkeley) and I don't much care for the Steelers ;-)

Great games today! and My Pack is Back, hehee! I am giddy that we are going to another Super Bowl. I think my post tonight was the first time I did not mention our BF (Brett) by name? as I have the last few Packer updates. I am sorry you are down the bug :( I think I am finally over it, after over 8 weeks, but my headaches & low back are still giving me the grumps. many healing hugs & happy to see you writing again :)

It's all about the 'football' in our house. Two games yesterday. Please don't be disappointed in me but I read and watch the commercials when the games are on.

I did crack some ribs playin' sorority football in college...does that count???? Heeehehe!

Feel better sweetie and have a glorious day! :o)

I, too, always watch the National Anthem, when they show it. I pay grudging attention to any players who look like they are not paying respect.

As a lifelong Packer fan, I must say, the whole Favre thing resolved itself quite neatly for me when Favre got with a mediocre Minnesota team and gave a distinct thumb in the eye to the Packers by declaring Minnesota to be the best team he ever played with. Yep, that got me over him in a heartbeat. Me, and millions of other Packer fans. Long live Aaron Rodgers.

GO PACK! (Though, I must admit, those Steelers look fierce right now!)

Hey, Friendgirl! You know I am right with you on the football love issue. I, too, am already feeling depressed because it's almost over until August when pre-season begins. Our year still revolves around football, especially now, since grandson #2 is immersed in it as a QUARTERBACK, for pete's sake! I bounce back and forth between REJOICING and CRINGING at that thought. And the back-stories and the anthem and the huge American flag flowing across the field, and when they have an EAGLE soar over the field, I can hardly breathe, I'm so affected by it all. So, YES, I GET IT!

You remind me of a "blog missionary". Your blog is such a blessing and you reach out to so many people. I have read through each of the last few posts and I feel overwhelmed at all the hurts of dear women and overwhelmed at how God answered prayer for you and your husband. I pray that you will continue to share your life and your blog.

Both games had wonderful national anthems. I love to hear them as well and always love hearing a good, traditional version.

Of course, we're very exciting in Wisconsin at the outcome yesterday.

I do believe it sounds like you are getting rested up from your holiday season..and your very hard draining ordeal with your sweetheart. You deserve some catch up relaxing time.

Oooohhhh that book sounds good. Love football too, keeps me close to all my guys. Winter blues...sorry, not too much on that one. I try to stay positive no matter what the season and enjoy a roaring fire and football, a walk in the snow, or just more early nights to bed with a good book. Less pressure to be out and about, and just cocoon a little more.
