I AM AN ADDICT

****My number one drawer of prizes, Parker, decided to spend the night with Austin one more night, so I am extending this drawing until tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon...he will be here to draw then...so you still have a chance.

I AM AN ADDICT! Got that out of the way! But there will be a good surprise giveaway at the end of the post...so stay with me...another addiction.
I am a blog reading addict... I love people's stories. Everyone has one! Problem is I love too many blogs and cannot find a good system to read and keep up with my favorite blogs!
HOW DO YOU READ YOUR BLOGS? PLEASE SEND ME YOUR SUGGESTIONS and YOUR SYSTEM....That's just one addiction. I am addicted to grandsons (the little's), addicted to family ( I really could be on a desert island with just my husband, kids and their families and be perfectly happy), I am addicted to football (that would be #4 on the Vikings who I so hope is returning for another year...big addiction), addicted to magazines and books ( I rarely see a book that does not want to come and live at my house) addicted to coffee and my Keurig, addicted to TV...not sitcoms but the NEWS..I know WEIRD, I am ADDICTED to STAYING UP TOO LATE...that's been a problem for a long time and you will notice many of my posts come in the middle of the night, I am addicted to DISNEY....I am VERY TIGHT WITH MICKEY, I am addicted to FACEBOOK..enough said... a very time consuming addiction but I have reconnected with so many old friends, seen their families for the first time...I am addicted to laptops...always searching for the perfect one...constantly looking, I am addicted to photos and frames, (unique frames) I am addicted to candles, I am addicted to BABIES...and in our family we probably have all the babies we are going to have, so now I have to be addicted to my friends grand babies, I am addicted to GREAT SHEETS and GREAT HOTELS and as soon as I post this I will think of ten more addictions. I think I have an addictive personality. Some people would think I am addicted to
Christmas and trees! I AM NOT..that's just my business and far from an addiction.
I am just admitting every addiction I can think of. Confession is good for the soul! Hope you are getting the picture. I have some real idiosyncrasies. Tell me some of yours...so I will know I am not the only BLOGGER that is an ADDICT.
Thank you for all your sweet comments on
Greg's letter to his Dad. That really was his heart on paper.

On a very sad note, Maggie the Magnificent, as she was called, left this world yesterday. So many of you have ask about her and prayed for her this past year....thank you...please do not stop. I will just share an email I received from her grandmother yesterday around noon...
Our precious Maggie went to be with the Jesus about 10:30 this morning. The healing was not to be here on earth, but she is safe and perfect in the arms of the Lord. Maggie fought valiantly till the end and no doubt Jesus met her at Heaven's gate with a basket full of blue ribbons and gold medals. Thank you all for the prayers and support you have given our family during this past year. Love, Gail
I can't even write about my feelings about childhood cancer. It is something in life that I cannot wrap my mind around or understand. It seems that every week I hear about a new child in the fight and few things make me any sadder and yes sometimes just depressed.

LETS HAVE A WEEKEND GIVEAWAY....That's another ADDICTION! All you need to do to be entered is just leave a comment (because I desperately need some advice on the blog reading system)! THAT COMMENT will give you a chance on something really special on Sunday night....I promise...a surprise. On this blog never feel like you have to do anything other than comment....I just cannot do all the things required on some blogs to enter a drawing. Also check out THIS...Sounds like so much fun to me. Some Days are Diamonds is such a fun place. Hope you have a GREAT WEEKEND. We will be celebrating Grayson's first birthday, then off to Christmas market for me. I will have Parker draw Sunday night and announce a WINNER!

Honestly, I haven't figured out a way to stay on top of all the great blogs either. I'll be reading all the comments to get ideas too. Have a great weekend. Blessings, SusanD

Ha! You are not alone.

When I first started blogging, I would go through my dashboard and read and comment on EVERY post my friends wrote. Now -- due to time restraints I DEFINITELY visit the friends who visit me and comment. IF I happen to have some extra time like tonight, I'll go through my dashboard and if the title of a post grabs my attention (like yours just did) I pause and visit. :o) Unfortunately, I don't have time to visit everyone each day like I did before.

I am so sorry to hear about this young one losing her fight with cancer. I'm with you -- I hate cancer and DO NOT understand children battling such a disease. :o(

God bless you,
Beth

I cannot believe Grayson will be 1! I wish I had great advice for blog reading but I just start at the top and work my way down.

Lissete said...

Sorry, no advice here. I'm always behind. I do use Bloglines, which helps a wee bit.

My heart goes out to Maggie's family. I, too, cannot fathom what these children go through.

I can't imagine how you do all those things listed. I just started reading again this summer because I missed it...but can't seem to do it and read tons of blogs...oh my (o:

I'm addicted to blog reading, facebook, sleeping, and currently the World Cup.

As for reading blogs, my system is that I have a blog roll listed on my blog and those are the blogs I read every day or whenever they post something new. Then I go through the dashboard and read those that get my attention. I always comment on the ones I read.

SarahMerritt said...

Teresa I CANNOT believe Grayson is 1! I remember your post that day and praying for him!Happy 1st Birthday little guy! as far as blog reading I try to read every post every blog I follow posts but some days it just dosn't happen... I am so sad that Maggie lost her battle but Praise Jesus she is in his arms and is cancer free! I am so tired of death this week I need a break from it. My 19 year old sil died in a car accident early monday morning and it hit our family hard.
have a great weekend I am hoping to get some time to relax and catch up on the posts from everyone from this last week!

There are so many great blogs it IS hard to keep up with them. I do have my favorites, and if I skip a day or so, I'll go to their blog and catch up by reading several posts. I do use my Dashboard, and if I'm running short of time, do just as the others have said and read the ones that catch my attention. You certainly were transparent, and I do share some of your same addictions!! :D

I love to read blog posts too. The more blogs I follow, the harder it is to keep up though.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep. So what do I do? I read blogs.

I keep track of the people I follow but since I follow so many I know I miss many. There are a few people I always read. Also if I'm friends with a blogger on Facebook, I often read their blog post when they've listed it on their page.

I don't know if this helps. I think you do a pretty good job of visiting blogs, including Heart Choices. And for that I'm very grateful.

Blessings and love,
Debbie

Decor To Adore said...

Oh I adore blogging and it requires true juggling and balance. As I work, go to school and am a wife and mother it often falls to last on the list.
I've found that just writing 3 x a week allows me to actually answer each comment that others graciously leave me and peruse other blogs. I do follow a few blogs and of course often go down a rabbit hole of finding a new blog here and then not remembering how I got there.
I rarely watch tv and have insomnia quite a bit so blogging is my happy place.

Love the Decor! said...

I don't have a wonderful system but I do try to comment back and read those that I can without feeling guilty if I don't get to every one. Wish I had it figured out but just don't Hope your weekend is
lovely !!

Finding time to read all my favorite blogs is just something I have not been able to do. So...I have given up Facebook...just a quick browse each day, mostly to keep up with the kids. Then I always try to respond to those who comment on my blog...that's very important to me. Several times a day, I will spend a few minutes reading from my dashboard. As far as personal blogging...I am fortunate to get one post out per week.

Time is precious...and so are my blog friends. I wish there was more time in the day...
Jane (artfully graced)

Tammy said...

I don't have a very good system either but everyone who I like to read everyday is on my blogroll. That way I know what is current on their blog. When I have the extra time I go exploring on other blogs, usually I go through blogrolls on my favorites. I am still searching for my happy place since I don't want to lose any followers...I love each and every one of them.

Gosfam said...

I feel like all your addictions are legit :) I love reading people's blogs too. I just use my blogger dashboard, or Google Reader, and open everything in separate tabs across my laptop. Then I click from one to another, and before you know it I have wasted 2 hrs, my girls are still in their Pjs, and eating pickles for breakfast--LOL!! Not that bad. But anyways once the tabs are gone I am done for the day and check back in once the kids were asleep and start all over.

Wow this got long, it is late right now and I am rambling. Basically Google Reader is the best bet, and separate tabs. GOOD LUCK!! I hope I make sense.

I too am an addict of many things like you. As far as blog reading goes, I have the blogs I follow on my sidebar and I just watch for them to post something new and then I check it out. Sometimes I get behind, but I try not to. How fun that you are having another giveaway. Have a great weekend.

I have a difficult time keeping up with all the wonderful blogs on my reading list as well. I try to read some for a while in the morning and comment right away, but I'm always behind! I love your addictions. I'm addicted to babies, great sheets, and great hotels as well!! Makes me want a vacation! I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Hi Teresa,

Thanks for the visit. What a cute blog. I love your family pictures. Your grandsons are something else. To answer you questions about being in control of following meaningful blog I had installed one of Google's gadget (blogs I follow)and it keeps feeding you the title of everyone's new posts. It became very big over time and when I opened my page it took forever to download so I took it off. Ever since I try and remember the ones I've had for a long time and are faithful followers. I dont think this is prbably helpful and I think everyone struggles with the same problem because there are so many nice bloggers out there LOL. Take care.

No good system here; I read the regular visitors on my blog whenever they update, and I try to visit my followers (not many yet) frequently. Then I click on one of their favorite blogs and end up with more blogs to read.... Well, you know how it is!

You have a great weekend!

The only way I can keep up with reading my blogs is by the blogroll. That at least helps me know who has posted recently. I also monitor my comments so I can stay personally in touch with the devoted friends. Of course, my fan list isn't anywhere near what yours is....you have more comments than I have followers.
I'm so sorry to hear about Maggie but mny heart is lighter knowing that she fought a courageous fight and is now with the Great Healer. Can't you see her running in green fields and playing as children are supposed to do?
It's thoughts like that that kept me sane all my years as a pediatric nurse.
Blessings, Teresa. And have a super wonderful fun filled weekend.

I visit those that comment on my blog first and then I go to the dashboard. But I really try to catch up on the weekends because not many post on the weekends so then I can catch everyone.

BARBIE said...

Google Reader works best for me. For the most part though, I visit the blogs and comment on those who visit me. I love building relationships that way. But because I also love making new friends, Google Reader allows me to look at all the blogs I follow. If a post title grabs my attention, I will read, and try and comment. If I read but don't have time to comment, I will "star" it in my reader. Then a day or two later, when I have time I can go to the starred items and read and comment. I hope this helps.

I visit the same blogs every day, family & friends & Military Families!!! Love your littles that Jack is so dang cute!!! I comment on those that I read and follw !!!! But I like to poke around too, so....yup that's how I do!!! God Bless :)

I totally agree with you about the blogs!!! =) I just keep up with them daily, which can sometimes be exhausting, I think I need a different method for reading them as well, since some days I feel like I spend way too much time reading posts, but I am so afraid I will "miss" something if I don't =( If you figure it out, let me know!!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and the sweet comment!!

Joni said...

I usually read them through email or Google Reader. That is the best way for me. I read certain ones everyday and I always go straight to those because I like to see the photos and see other people's comments. Have a great weekend!

I just read my favorites first...and then all of the rest when I get time. But it is hard because I love reading blogs and making cyber-friends! (:>)

You are funny and I liked your title...(Since I am a grammy too)...so you are one of my favs.

It depends on how my life is going...and if my silly computers are working...as to how often I blog and how many I can read and comment on. Sometimes several days pass when I can't do it. BUT it's ok...I just get back to it when I can.

Like you, my family is most important. Blogging is kind of an addiction, and facebook...but not too bad. As I said I can go days without getting online.

I am addicted to HGTV, and The Food Channel. I am addicted to reading...and I love to go to the library.

I am addicted to Golden Oreos and also Werthers Originals.

I love decorating but not housework...and eating and cooking but not the cleaning up afterwards!

I am addicted to babies....I just think they are so precious.

I am addicted to my best friends...and of course my husband...he is really my BEST friend.

Have a great Saturday!

I have blogs that are my favorite and I always read them first. I try to comment on them at least once a week. The blogs that I follow are usually the blogs that follow me (I don't have that many followers but I do read all those first). Then I also love to blog hop.
Since I also work and my family requires so much of my time I do spend too much time blogging. Now that summer is here it is so busy at my house so blogging for me is far and in between. I try to post at least once a week sometimes once every few weeks. It just depends. One more thing on blog reading I usually like to comment on posts that touch my heart,. I like reading your blog because I like to read about grandkids, plus they are too cute. I am going to be a grandmother is September; so I am getting plenty of ideas here.
Sorry this is so long.
God bless.

I use the Blogger.com dashboard to keep up with blogs. I start getting obsessed with them and fell like I need to read every single post people put up, but I don't have the time anymore! So I just look at the ones that look interesting or have an eye-catching title or picture.

Nina Diane said...

blogs are fun to read! I used to get stressed if I was behind in reading them but I try not to anymore. If I'm behind, then I just try to catch my favs or the ones with interesting titles. I tell myself it's ok if I miss someone's post once in awhile! :)

Oh I need to figure out a better system, too. I used to have the time to read all the blogs in my dashboard - now I'm down to visiting those who visit me until I catch up more. I've got 200 unread emails still to go through.

When I was still mildly caught up, I used the dashboard but skipped the ones where the posts didn't call to me in the first paragraph. If I read something though, I'm going to comment! (And I appreciate that on the flip side, too)

But oh I feel for you!

Sherry said...

I have not been blogging or blog reading long but always visit those who have visited me first and then scroll down my list and my dashboard and give myself a time limit. I choose post titles that jump out at me or one I haven't visited in a while. I am so glad I came to visit you today.

Susan said...

I love to read blogs, too! There are so many good ideas out there and so much inspiration. ♥ I usually look at my dashboard and run through everyone's updated posts. I admit that I don't comment on every one, but I really do read most of them. Love your blog!

Tree said...

Ahhh...I wish I knew the secret myself! I also love reading blogs, and get frustrated when I don't have the time to get to all of them in a week.

I usually set aside a couple hours EARLY in the morning or LATE in the evening, and do nothing but go through my Blog Dashboard and find the posts I want to comment on. If I don't put myself on a schedule to do it, I won't.

And I could've written many of your addictions LOL, but have to definitely agree with this one (I really could be on a desert island with just my husband, kids and their families and be perfectly happy!). Love my family!

So very sorry to hear about Maggie. Sending up prayers for her family and friends!!

Begin by applying this advice from a brilliant scholar:

"Let the Spirit be your guide from hour to hour, do what it tells you and do not concern yourself with other things. . . .

There are vitally important issues which concern us all but to which I pay no attention unless so directed by the Spirit." (Hugh Nibley)

Then - organize all computer tasks according to a pattern that is comfortable to you. Follow that pattern habitually once you have made it comfortable.

My home page is iGoogle where I have news headlines, weather forecasts and unread blog headlines. It reminds me of a printed newspaper. I think of the blogs as the Lifestyle section - which was always where I ended up after the front page.

I think we're related...we are addicted to the same things!!!!
I am addicted to babies, but I can't have anymore right now or I would lose my mind.

As far as reading blogs goes...I love it to do it too, so on the blog readers I only read the ones which posts interests me or if I see a great idea. I used to read all of them and then noticed that my little monkey's were being neglected...lol.

Jessica Anne said...

I don't have a great system. I just try to make an effort to get on my reader a few times a day. (I really need to organize that thing better.) My biggest thing is I have decided not to feel guilty about not reading everyone everyday. Some posts just don't interest me, so I don't read them (or finish reading them.) Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your family is beautiful!

Hi..found your blog by way of Count it All Joy...and have so enjoyed my visit.

The way I visit and keep up is with the list in my sidebar. They are listed in the order they have posted. The first one being the most recent posting...sometimes the ones at the end don't change for several weeks. Once I have visited and read that entry the color changes so I can identify quickly if I have read that. You can add and delete blogs as you choose keeping your list current with what you are reading. When I first find one I like, I may just add it to my favorites on my computer until I read a few entries and then when I have several I want to add, that is when I update my list.
This keeps me up to date...hope it helps

Consider me entered!

Oh girlfriend, I have an addictive personality too! Our addictions are almost exact too. I don't have a Keurig, but want one.

I wish I had an answer for you about how to handle all the blog reading. I just do the best I can. I try really hard to visit everyone that visit me first and then I visit all the others on my fav list as often as I can. I try not to stress out too much over it because I don't want it to become a burden instead of the enjoyment it is for me now.

Hope your weekend was a good one.

Oh man, I am a blog addict too! I follow... I don't even know how many. 200? And there is no way to keep up on them.

So I have a private blog, and all I have on it are 4 blog lists (you know, the blog list application you can add to your sidebar?).

The first one is people I know in real life. The latest updates move themselves to the top of the list, and I make sure to read those before moving on to the second list, which is Favorites. The blogs I just love. And then I have craft blog lists, and the final list is all the others. I rarely get to that list.

It's not perfect, but it helps me to keep them separated!

To keep up with my blogging habit I try to prioritize responding to comments, following those that follow me, and then the blogs on my blog roll via Google reader. Some days I get really behind and take a few hours to catch up. I don't have near the followers you do so it's not as big of a challenge as you would have - and I just added to it my becoming a new follower ;-)

Hi Teresa! Thank you for stopping by my blog. I am here as I promised myself that I would stop by because you were so kind to visit me. :) I love your confessions for being addicted to such things. It really is good for the soul, I completely concur.

As far as how to organize your favorite blogs. I normally place them somewhere I can access them easily. Mostly on my actual blog, so I can just click on a link. Also, there is a way to list your desired blogs on your site to where you can see the most updated information. It's quite nifty...but I'm still new at this blogging stuff, so this advice might be silly or old news. :)

I wonder what this lovely giveaway will be! "Parker"...oh how I love love love that name! :) I also think it is 'Disney magical' that you have been with your dearest for 38 years. I hope to accomplish the same and it is inspiring.

Have a lovely day/night! :)

Death of a young one is not to be understood, at least not on this side of Heaven. Perhaps we should be grateful that a loved one was given time to be with us. Do you remember Dale Evans (wife of Roy Rogers)? She wrote a book entitled "Angel Unaware" about their child that had physical and some mental problems. The little girl died at the age of 8-10 (I am guessing), and Dale said that though her death was horrible for the family, they felt that she was like an angel that had been given a short time on earth and they were the lucky family to have had her for that time.

My blog is a little blog, so I do not have the same problem, but I agree with some of your other responders. Try to reply to those that contact you. If they comment on every post then reply once in a few posts. Then pick out some that catch your eye, and of course there are probably some that are your favorites anyway. Whew, that should still take up most your time.

Appreciate your dropping by my site tonight.

We all face our trials and tribulations in this life so we do the best we can to rise to the occasion. I try to focus on our blessings and be grateful for what we have. Accepting the things we can not change is the most difficult for me. Thank you again and its’ always nice to meet a new friend, no matter under what circumstances.
Hugs, Cathy

I follow over 300 blogs! I never think twice when hitting the follow button. I only read the one's that 'speak' to me. The ones that influence my days in a Godly fashion. Decorating frugally, Talking about being Godly women, organizing tips...the things that I feel better for just reading. If it doesn't influence me in a positive way-I won't read it! My morning time is too precious! Even with following this many blogs, if I use that rule, it takes me only 30 to 45 minutes! I LOVE your blog! It makes me smile!

okay I'm crazy because I do try to read everyone on my blog list and it a long one. Some I just read what they have posted that today , others that I like I will read more. New followers or you today I will come back to later . Sorry I know, no help but on the up side I'm not doing boring stuff like cleaning or Ironing ( I hate ironing)I lie I get the boring stuff out of the way so he ( the love of my life) will not know how much time I spend blogging but that a differant story. As for my addiction OH where to start.... Paper, I love scrap booking paper, I can't go into a craft stop with out picking up more, chocolate but I not eaten since Christmas.... we'll see how long that will last and lastly my family, yes I am addicted to them.... Have a great day Hugs ~Wendy @blissangels

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I thought I would stop by and check things out. Great site!

For reading blogs have you ever tried Google Reader? I just posted about how I organize mine on my own blog. It's rather easy once you get the hang of it. Hope this helps!

Ah but such wonderful addictions you have:-) Like you, I have many such addictions and that's why I complain that there are never enough hours in a day to do everything I want to see and do! lol As for a blog reading system, I use Google Reader and check it every day to see who has done a post. The visiting part is the hardest, some days I just don't have time to visit anyone, especially during this time of year. I do read all the posts, though, but sometimes don't leave a comment due to lack of time. I like to reassure myself that all my blogging friends are doing well:-)

Such sad news about Maggie, my heart and prayers go out to her family. Cancer is bad enough for an adult but when it's a child, well, like you, I just can't wrap my mind around it or understand.

Oooh another giveaway, now I really love that addiction! hehe Hope your week is going well so far my friend. xoxo

I know my comment doesnt count, but I ABSOLUTELY HAD to come here and see what other bloggers have given for advice! I am in a constant state of "catch up"! And thus why I seem to only manage posting one post a week! I try to touch base at least once a week to the blogs on my sidebar, and also the memes that I join in with and definitely try to at least reply or comment to those wonderful bloggers that have so sweetly left comments on my posts.

As you may remember, our family had to face the challenges of childhood cancer when our 20 year old son ws 14 to 15 yrs old. That was such a difficult time and we had several youngsters that we met along the way, some that are survivors and some who have gone on to Heaven. Prayers of comfort and peace for Maggie's family.

Blessings & Aloha!
