Meet Micah....What Can I Say? I WAS WRONG!

This
picture
tells
the
story

Greg, Micah and their boys

two buddies

Amanda and Micah right before Jack was born

Micahs first attempt to teach Jack to drive.
It is very comforting to pass a driver with a
pacifier in his mouth

Jack's favorite place to be, snuggled in his Dad's lap!

one of my favorite shots..teaching Parker to fish I think they love each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meet Micah.....The WORLD'S GREATEST HUGGER! a great golfer, a good cook,
a laugh a minute, a guy that has had some hard times in his life, but has chosen to move on and live life to the fullest!

Micah was my sons best
friend during their (wild) college days!
He was my son's best man in his wedding. I have always loved
Micah but I did not love Micah for Amanda's husband and Parker's stepdad.
At least that was the story for many years. Micah has always been in love with Greg's little sister! He might or might not admit that, but he was.
A mother knows those things.

Micah and I have HISTORY. Some good and some not so good...but he was not the person I wanted to be the stepdad to "the greatest thing that ever happened to me!" Period! He and Amanda dated when Parker was 4 and he was in NO way ready to parent. Another period! Thankfully Amanda got that too, although there was no doubt she was in love with him. This is a place I need to pause and bow my head in thanks!

Fast forward another few years and Micah graduated from college. Still not ready to parent...he needed to get a REAL job. He needed to leave the bartending business. That was a great job for both he and Greg during college days, but it is not for a man with a family.

When Parker was 7, Amanda was in her own house, totally taking care of herself and Parker, she had a great job and was attending college.
Micah enters the picture again. No doubt they loved each other...
We had invested so many years making sure Parker was an emotionally healthy and MUCH loved little boy. We did not not need a rookie to come in and tell Amanda or us how to parent and grandparent. We had it it down. Can you feel the emotions rising?
And then it got serious! I knew Amanda was going to marry him. I can remember praying that I could keep my mouth shut (hard) and just maybe I would be wrong. Please remember this is a boy, kid, and now man that I loved...but I loved him as Greg's friend.

I wanted to be WRONG..and guess what ...I WAS........from day one of this round of the romance, things had changed. Micah began to spend lots of time with my husband. I began to see him emulating in him in little ways. He and I had long talks about how we had longed for and had prayed for Amanda's future husband and that he would fall head over heels in love with Parker.

I could cry as I type the next line..Micah is not only madly in love with my girl, but he is so in love with her boy! Then we found out they were going to have another boy...and he and I stood side by side on a cold January day and saw Jack Strother enter our world. We shared a rather historical moment. I call those HOLY moments.
He has a great job and is a very hard worker (that always gets you points in our family). I am constlantly amazed at how seriously he takes, caring for his family.
He is a hands on DAD and over and over he amazes me with his love and care of his family. He is a wonderful husband to Amanda....and he is an awesome DAD and STEPDAD...So again I want to repeat, I WAS WRONG!!!!!!
He is all that and more in what I had dreamed for in a son-in-law. I am sure glad that Amanda saw what I did not see. Micah...In case you do ever read this...This Grammy thinks you Rock!!!
We are coming to the end of my family introductions ...so now you have the
main players....Jack and I are the Mom and Dad, Amanda and Greg are our kids, Amanda is married to Micah and they have Parker and Jack, Greg is married to Dana and they have Austin and a new little boy arriving in June...so meet the Powells has come to an end....and you are probably glad!

I have loved getting to know your family. I can tell that you love them like I love mine. I too made a mistake about a son-in-law that is now one of the greatest blessings in my life. Thank you for sharing.

The pictures are absolutely precious. It is soo evident that there is mutual love and admiration going on. And it takes a humble person to admit that they are wrong, and how sweet for you it has turned out - being wrong can be a very good thing!

They say every picture tells a story and yours sure did. What a beautiful post. Sometimes, it's okay to be able to say we were wrong, especially when it's something perfect like this. I loved meeting your family. Have a great weekend.

Oh this is so sweet and true!! Micah was in your family for such a long time being loved by you before he became your "son". It's okay that you were wrong because God was RIGHT and knew all along that he was the one for Amanda and Parker, and now Jack. I love the pictures and the love flows out of each one. Isn't it great to watch our children love their mates and then give us the most precious grandkids? Life is good and so is God. Have a wonderful weekend.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

Some call it fate others call it karma, but whatever we call it what will be will be. How wonderful your son-in-law had time to "season" before he became a stepdad. How wonderful of you to admit you were mistaken. What a wonderful family!

Rats...I didn't win the card box (o: Loved the family introduction. Reminds me of what I said to God when my daughter was getting serious with a divorced man with two kids. I said, "God, that is not exactly what I expected." I swear, I laughed because the first thought that came into my head (I say from God) was..."When did I ever do exactly what you expected!"

What a sweet sweet story, and I admire a man that loves a child as their own truly like they are of the same flesh and blood, I do because I married one. Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad!! What a blessing.

Thanks for stopping my blog again. It's so interesting getting to know more and more about you. I love the honesty of your story.

My husband used to be a bartender too before he went back to college, where he met me. And I know he'd agree it's not the best occupation for a family man.

(And oddly enough I never would have guessed that I would be married to or even date a bartender, since I don't even drink, but I guess sometimes life just surprises us.)

Too funny, my dad, whom I adored, was not happy with "my choice" and challenged him in "every way". We were married in a small ceremony and I remember that it seemed that my dad "scowled" through the whole thing....but years later, I remember a talk when he said how proud he was of us, even through the obstacles of being married young with opportunities being scarce...We stood tall and stayed strong through adversity...not expecting anything from anyone, depending on us..our "little family"...We had a daughter a year and a half later...and yes, still married many, many years later...Our families are like quilts and the families are as strong as the stitches.........

Hey Teresa!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I haven't been updating much because I have been going to school full time, which has over taken my brain! But thankfully the school year os over and I can return to blogging a little more regularly!

I loved reading your story! When I read through a few of your lists I was smiling at how much we have in common! (I'm a Fox News junkie-it's pretty much on at all times when my kids aren't home, Beth Moore Bible studies ROCK, bloging changed my life! And the list goes on!) Oh! One thing I wanted to mention is that we have a little boy named Jackson who loves the Packers and a few years ago their kicker (Dave Rayner) was a guy that grew up in the youth group my husband and I worked for, so we were able to get 2 signed footballs by Brett Favre! It was a great Christmas gift to give to our boys!

OH! We love Disney too! We are Vacation Club Members! YAY! OH! I got my first Mac this year to..I LOVE IT!

Anyway, sorry for the long comment! I will be back for sure!

Hi Teresa,..."Grammy Girlfriend", (Cute Blog Name)

Oh, I loved the happy ending to your son-in-law story. I have two of the most wonderful son-in-laws! And I feel like they are truly my own sons! I love them.

I lost one of my son-in-laws when my youngest daughter got a divorce after nearly 10 years of marriage. I still have a place in my heart for him,..even though they have been divorced 5 years. He will always be the dad to 4 of my grandkids, and I love him. (I don't agree with some of the things he does,...but I was a mom to him for 10 years and I miss him being in our lives).

I am so glad that you were wrong about your son-in-law,...and that he is a wonderful, husband, stepdad, father, and son-in-law. You are blessed.

Thanks for the comment on my blog today, and for inviting me to visit yours. I will come back again and read some more of your stories.

She doesn't mistreat him, just more or less exnored him, he is 19 now and his dad did a great job of raising him, he is over pride and joy.

But I met him at just the right time and it was God's timing and we'll be celebrating 21 years of marriage in June.

So glad after all those years of knowing each other that Amanda and Micah waited for the right time to get married.
I love happy endings.

What a dear story. I didn't think my son-in-law was ready to be a dad. I wanted to be a grandma more than anything, but.......they had my little Brett and Mike turned out to be the BEST father I could ever imagined. His world revolved around Brett. It was wonderful. Mike was killed in a car accident when Brett was two and a half. What a loss, both for my daughter and my little guy. It's been tough, but my daughter is soooo strong. I'm so proud of her. I'm glad your story had such a remarkable ending.

Hugs!

I love the picture of Father and Son Fishing... so classic, so simple, so true and REAL. Simple Joys in life. Beautiful.

So, so, so glad you were wrong as I know you are too. It's not often we can hope/wish/want to be wrong. This is a powerful story. I'm so glad I read it today.
